Katherine Fernandez Rundle became the first female Hispanic state attorney in Florida in 1993 and has served as Miami-Dade County’s top prosecutor ever since, winning re-election five times.
She spent 15 years before that as an assistant state attorney, including eight years as chief assistant. In that capacity she served as chief legal counsel to the Miami-Dade County grand jury, presenting hundreds of murder and capital cases, as well as heading investigations that led to major reforms in juvenile justice and a revision of the building code in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
