When FPA Medical Corp. of Miami descended into Chapter 11 bankruptcyproceedings last year, its executives and lawyers did not head for theClaude W. Pepper Federal Building, site of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court indowntown Miami.

Instead, they bought plane tickets for Wilmington, Del., where theyfiled their papers. Other financially troubled South Florida companieshave followed suit, such as Levitz Furniture and Brothers GourmetCoffee, both Boca Raton companies that sought protection from creditorsthis year.
