With the wealth of content that exists on the Internet, seemingly free for the taking, it’s no wonder that businesses are still coming to grips with the rights associated with that content. But one business, Weekend, a Dutch tabloid published by Audax, recently learned the hard way that just because content exists on the Web doesn’t necessarily mean it’s free.

The Dutch tabloid found itself on the losing end of a lawsuit brought by former MTV video jockey Adam Curry. Curry commenced the action in the District Court of Amsterdam after the tabloid copied and published photographs of Curry’s 15-year-old daughter, Christina, which had been posted on Flickr, the Yahoo-owned photo-sharing Web site.
