Details: Hortensia Martin of Homestead went to De La Pedraja Radiology Associates in Coral Gables in 2008 and was seen by Dr. Jorge Jose Sowers, a radiologist who performed a mammogram. Sowers detected a nodule and prepared a report notifying Martin’s family practitioner, Dr. Salomon Mitrani-Sevy of Hialeah, who in turn instructed his medical assistant to call Martin. Martin said she never received a call and first heard about the nodule when the radiology center notified her of an abnormality by letter four months after the X-ray.
Instead of working with Mitrani-Sevy, the woman switched to Dr. Kumarie Latchman, then with Kendall Medical Plaza. However, Latchman didn’t see Martin until five months afterward.
