While their colleagues will be bathing off balmy South Florida beaches, seven Coral Gables lawyers will plunge into the frigid waters of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis on Saturday. The torture is for a good cause—Special Olympics Minnesota.

Andres Rivero, Charlie Whorton, Ana Maria Barton, Andrew Bernhard, Bryan Paschal, Carlos Rodriguez and Adriana Olivares from Rivero Mestre have signed up to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge, an annual fundraiser presented by the Minnesota Law Enforcement Torch Run. Their team is dubbed the Miami Penguins.

“Being a Miami native, this is something completely different, and I’m a little nervous about the cold,” Rivero said. “But it’s for a good cause. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the Special Olympics.”

The law firm was dared to take the plunge by friends at Minneapolis-based Target Corp.

In return, Rivero Mestre plans to challenge Minnesotans to a South Florida charity event—rappeling 19 stories down the JW Marriott Marquis Miami to support the Miami Children’s Initiative. The Over the Edge event will be held in September 2014.
