In December 1985, when Design Center of the Americas’ first tenants moved into a glittering new building at Interstate 95 and Griffin Road, developer Marvin Danto planned a shopping mecca for the industry.

By the time a third phase was finished in 2001, he had largely achieved his goal. Clients from as near as Miami and Naples, and as far as the Caribbean and Latin America, flocked to the 775,000-square-foot center, and designer, furniture and textile tenants filled it almost to capacity.
