A woman who slipped and fell on water at a Wal-Mart store recovered $400,000.

Beth Stuckey, then 33, was shopping at a Wal-Mart store on Kendall Drive when she claimed she slipped and fell on water that had leaked out of a milk refrigerator. She claimed cervical and lumbar injuries. Stuckey contended she slipped on a puddle the size of a legal folder as she walked by the cooler. She contended there were paper towels wedged under the cooler because Wal-Mart knew it was leaking. Defense counsel argued the paper towels were present only as a precautionary measure and not because of a known leak. The jury found Stuckey and Wal-Mart each 50 percent negligent, reducing an $800,000 award.
