As the war in Afghanistan winds down, more veterans will return to a job market saddled by persistently high rates of unemployment.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1 million veterans are expected to return to civilian life over the next few years. Since 9/11, veterans’ unemployment rates have consistently trended at more than 3 percentage points higher than the overall unemployment rate.
