Defense attorneys vowed to appeal guilty verdicts Monday of two prison guards in what federal prosecutors said was the beating and choking of youthful offenders two years ago.

Corrections officer Alexander McQueen was convicted of conspiracy to violate the civil rights of the inmates at the South Florida Reception Center in Doral on Sept. 25, 2009.McQueen was also convicted of obstruction of justice for filing a false report. Co-defendant and fellow guard Steven Dawkins was also convicted for not reporting the incident but acquitted of the civil rights violations.
