Akerman Senterfitt shareholder Edward B. Davis, former chief U.S. district judge in South Florida, died of complications from heart surgery, the law firm said Tuesday.

The family plans a private service for Davis, 77, who died Monday. A public remembrance will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Biltmore Hotel’s Granada Ballroom in Coral Gables.
