A team of South Florida federal prosecutors and agents from the FBI and Health and Human Services’ inspector general’s office have been recognized by the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association’s Institute for Health Care Fraud Prevention with the 2009 Excellence in Public Awareness Award.

The award recognizes the team for outstanding work in the investigation and prosecution of health care fraud in South Florida and for helping to bring the full scope of Medicare fraud to the forefront of domestic policy and public awareness. About 880 people have been prosecuted in South Florida for submitting more than $2.5 billion in false Medicare claims.
