The American military is more diverse than ever before. Many who serve or who have served are also parents. We appreciate our veterans for their service, and on this Veterans Day, it is also important to praise the active and retired military who play multiple roles, such as soldiers, parents, and sometimes divorcees. Very few people in the military can enjoy the 9-to-5 lifestyle, where they get to stay home with their family for everyday activities from breakfast to after-school sports. Frequent deployment, unpredictable schedules, and relocation can cause strain on a marriage and the family, resulting in the military having the highest divorce rate of any career field.

One cause of the deterioration of a relationship for active service members can be the transient nature of the job. With little control over assignments that span from basic training to frequent changes of duty station to weeks and months of deployment, the lack of stability can put a strain on building a life together. If you are divorced and divorced minor children, juggling responsibilities and schedules is even more complicated.
