A grocery store customer who allegedly slipped and fell on water that spilled onto the floor from water fountains was determined to have incurred damages of $5,949,497. However, the jury verdict was reduced to $1,784,849 to reflect the customer’s comparative negligence.

On March 1, 2014, plaintiff Loredana Tonetti, 58, a legal assistant, was shopping at the Whole Foods market on Peters Road, in Plantation. She went into the bathroom in the market’s café area. The path that leads through the café area and into the restrooms is next to two water fountains.
