Brett Bauman is senior associate general counsel at Broward Health.

What professional lessons have you learned from the COVID-19 pandemic?

I learned that while my work may sometimes seem inconsequential, I play a large part in an even larger whole. During the pandemic, I spent countless hours drafting contracts and researching legal theories to advance the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 for the healthcare workers and residents of Broward County. This included securing purchases and donations of personal protective equipment, or PPE, for Broward Health’s health care workers; assisting with the setup of one of the first mobile testing sites; helping to set up one of the first vaccination sites in Florida (where 115,000 vaccinations were administered to residents of Broward County); assisting with the donation of PPE and other supplies to other hospitals in dire need of protective gear; and supporting the efforts of Broward Health receiving air-evacuated patients who were stranded at sea aboard the Zaandam and Rotterdam cruise ships.
