Coral Gables managing partner Eddie Dabdoub of Dabdoub Law Firm has just won a case for his client Dr. James Michael Millis, who alleged that defendant Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. denied his claim for total disability coverage, which he based on his inability to work as a liver-transplant surgeon following a wrist injury.

This case illustrates a larger issue with disability insurance—namely, that insurance companies allegedly sell expensive policies with the understanding that their clients, including surgeons, have specific, highly skilled occupations, and want to insure against disability. But then, insurers allegedly routinely deny claims when their clients can only perform less complex occupational duties, Dabdoub said.
