What do you think has been the most effective step you’ve taken to increase diversity and inclusion at your firm, and why?

One of the most effective steps the firm has taken to increase diversity and inclusion was signing on to the Mansfield Rule. As stated so eloquently by the Diversity Lab, the structural elements of the Mansfield certification process—including the accountability through frequent firm-specific check-ins and data collection, the ongoing collaboration through monthly group knowledge sharing meetings, and the transparency of publicly certifying—are key to this effort.  The Mansfield Rule process has required our firm to focus on processes and put structure in places to ensure we continue to build diverse client service teams by focusing on recruiting, retaining and promoting women, racially and ethnically diverse lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with a disability. Our Mansfield Rule participation has opened the door to courageous conversations around what we are truly striving to accomplish as a firm with our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

What’s your best advice for firms hoping to emulate your success?
