A jury awarded more than $2.6 million to the family of a worker who was killed during a landscaping project in Miami.

On April 11, 2018, plaintiff’s decedent Edilser Gonzalez Perez, 21, a laborer, worked at a roadwork site that was located on Coral Way, in Miami. Workers were relocating mature palm trees. The trees were being transported by a type of crane, a telescopic handler. Perez was directed to wrap the root ball of a tree that was being suspended by the crane. The tree fell or swung, and the root ball struck Perez. Perez became pinned between the root ball and the crane’s body, and he suffered a fatal injury of his skull.
