The deadly collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside has made developers more likely to tear down older buildings and start afresh instead of dealing with and fixing issues, according to one attorney attempting to save a condemned Miami Beach hotel.

David Winker represents The Miami Design Preservation League, which has moved to intervene in a battle to preserve the Deauville Beach Resort. The hotel was hit with an order of demolition, but Winker alleges that’s because developers have used what happened in Surfside as an excuse to tear the building down.
