When a South Florida landscaper spent 21 days in the hospital after being electrocuted by a power line, Mark T. Packo and Michael B. Westheimer of Ged Lawyers in Boca Raton looked for potential negligence claims to levy against Florida Power & Light Co.

It was a strategy that would ultimately garner a $1.53 million verdict. But first, the attorneys had to overcome the fact that statements and medical records suggested the landscaper, Osvaldo Lopez, had touched a wire with his pole saw — something FPL argued made him solely responsible for his injuries.
