Facing mandatory retirement, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Gill Freeman, the first to preside in the complex business litigation division in 2007, is not running for re-election and will be ending her 18-year judicial career next year.

At 66, Freeman is aging out of the system. State law requires judges to retire when they turn 70, so Freeman would have to resign in the middle of her next term if re-elected. She said she plans to work as a mediator or arbitrator but has no specific plans yet. She plans to leave at the end of the election filing period in May 2016.
