A Vietnam veteran who claims he has been stuck “in limbo” for years while awaiting an appeal on his benefits through the Veterans Affairs Department has filed a lawsuit that could affect thousands of other veterans.

Conley Monk Jr., who served in the Marine Corps and lives in New Haven, filed a lawsuit on April 6 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims on behalf of himself “and thousands of similarly situated veterans.” The lawsuit seeks to have the disability compensation appeals process sped up with rulings issued “promptly” for veterans who are denied benefits while facing financial or medical hardships.
