After years of investigation and contention, European antitrust regulators slammed Google Inc. with a $2.7 billion fine on Tuesday, citing the company’s treatment of shopping results on its search engine.

It is the largest fine ever levied by the European Commission, though according to some lawyers, it’s entirely expected and there’s not much to worry about for general counsel at similar technology companies in the United States.
