LinkedIn Corp. hardly needs an introduction — it’s all about introductions. More than 150 million members are on LinkedIn, an online professional network. The majority of members use the site for free, but LinkedIn also offers paid premium memberships that provide enhanced search and communication tools. The company also sells hiring solutions for recruiters and advertising on the site. The Mountain View company was founded in 2003 by former Paypal executive Reid Hoffman, who is currently LinkedIn’s executive chairman. On Feb. 9, the company, which went public last May, reported year-end revenue of $522.2 million, more than double year-earlier results.

THE QUICK BIO

Erika Rottenberg, 49, began her career as an educator and union representative before she turned to the law. As a student at State University of New York in Geneseo, which she chose because of the school’s respected program in special education, she attended a convention where she was recruited for the Anchorage School District in Alaska — a perfect fit for the avid cyclist and hiker. As for her choice of special ed — which she taught to junior high students — “those kids learn because of their teacher,” said Rottenberg.
