The Wisconsin Supreme Court has suspended the law license of a former general counsel at a Milwaukee investment firm for two years after he pleaded no contest to misappropriating nearly $460,000 in company funds.

In an 11-page order issued on June 3, the court found that Matthew MacLean of Hartland, Wisconsin, acted improperly by using funds misappropriated from Red Granite Advisors, where he served as general counsel and chief compliance officer. The court also found that he “acted under a concurrent conflict of interest” by simultaneously serving as general counsel for BrickStix, a company conceptualized by MacLean’s minor son that makes decals for Lego bricks, while “failing to keep BrickStix’s finances separate from his personal finances and the finances of Red Granite.”
