Facing a thicket of legal issues, Airbnb has hired Rob Chesnut, a former senior vice president at eBay Inc., as its general counsel. He replaces Belinda Johnson, who was promoted to chief business affairs and legal officer last year. (Eric Newcomer of Bloomberg first reported the news on Tuesday.)

Chesnut has plenty of experience with startups. He comes over from Chegg Inc., a textbook rental business, where he served as the company’s first in-house lawyer and took it public in 2013. He’s served on the advisory boards of Poshmark, RelayRides (now Turo), Elance and other young companies. He’s also served on Uber’s advisory board on safety.
