The U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday passed the latest version of the Keystone XL pipeline bill after five major Gulf Coast refinery companies spent $58.8 million in lobbying efforts over the past two years.

The campaign contributions were reported by MapLight, a nonprofit research organization. It identified the five companies as Exxon Mobil Corp. ($26 million), Royal Dutch Shell plc ($17.3 million), Phillips 66 ($7.4 million), Marathon Petroleum Corp. ($5.8 million) and Valero Energy Corp. ($2.1 million).
