After a short stint as general counsel at San Francisco-based children’s clothier Peek, Aren’t You Curious Inc., Karyn Smith has moved to cloud communications company Twilio Inc. to serve as the company’s first general counsel. Twilio is a San Francisco-based company that develops software for users to manage applications that use voice and short message service texts.

Legal recruiter Julie Brush, based in Redwood Shores, Calif., says that the hire is a boon for Twilio because of Smith’s expertise and business experience.”Karyn knows what it’s like to be in a fast-paced environment through her days at Zynga, and she has a number of years of solid legal experience both in law firms and companies,” says Brush, who wasn’t involved in the hire.
