As wearable technology becomes more fashionable, don’t go sporting your Google Glass at the local multiplex, and take off that smartwatch while you’re at it. The Motion Picture Association of America and the National Association of Theatre Owners have updated their joint policy to prevent film theft in theaters, with a nod to the difficulties of preventing piracy in the wake of “intelligent” devices.

The newly updated policy reflects the popularity of smartphones and wearable tech, and also the ease with which they can record and steal intellectual property. “As part of our continued efforts to ensure movies are not recorded in theaters, however, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward using any recording device while movies are being shown,” reads the updated language. “As has been our long-standing policy, all phones must be silenced and other recording devices, including wearable devices, must be turned off and put away at show time.”
