It makes sense: Different appearances sometimes call for different thinking.

This month we take a look at the progress of Asian American lawyers in corporate law departments. A few years ago, they held only a handful of GC posts in the Fortune 500. But thanks in part to the work of the National Asian and Pacific American Bar Association, they’ve doubled their tally. Several attorneys say it was because they acknowledged the reality behind the stereotype—that Asians are strong in academic abilities, but not always so strong in social skills. A willingness to tackle this perceived deficit has helped them climb the ladder in law departments.
