The Deepwater Horizon was a floating rig that the owner, Transocean Ltd., was using to drill an oil well for BP p.l.c. in the Gulf of Mexico.

An explosion on the rig killed 11 workers and injured others. Transocean’s rig, which has a replacement cost exceeding $500 million, burned and sank in mile-deep water.
