Unlike many of their law firm peers, labor and employment specialists haven’t had a lot of downtime in the past few years. The recent economic slowdown has produced a steady demand for their advice, as struggling companies resorted to such measures as plant closings, layoffs, and pay and benefits cuts.

While the worst of the recession may be over, these same lawyers are now getting ready for a new blitz of matters, given that the Obama administration is stepping up its workplace enforcement efforts. Add to that an expected surge in private class actions over wage-and-hour violations, employment and pay discrimination, and other claims, and labor and employment practitioners don’t expect their workloads to ease up anytime soon.
