Doing business in Iraq is dangerous by any measure. But as a recent suit shows, companies working for the Iraqi government face an added risk: They might not get paid.

On July 20, Wye Oak Technology Inc. filed a $25 million breach-of-contract suit against the Iraqi Ministry of Defense in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Wye Oak, which is based in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, was hired by the ministry in 2004 for a range of projects, including refurbishing the Iraqi army’s Soviet-era tanks and collecting tons of scrap metal for resale.
