Property and casualty insurance company Chubb has announced Tracey Laws as the new general counsel of its government affairs group.
Laws will serve as senior vice president and general counsel of global government and industry affairs, a newly created position at the multinational company, according to the announcement of her hire Thursday. She'll report to Jodi Hanson Bond, the executive vice president of global government and industry affairs, and will be based in Washington, D.C.
It's a role that will allow her to work with Chubb's teams on every level from state to international as an adviser on legal, regulatory and policy issues. And it's a role that seems to make sense for Laws, given her experience.
She's leaving her position as senior vice president and general counsel at the Reinsurance Association of America in Washington, D.C. There, she worked with insurers and developed and implemented public policy that reflected members' views. She oversaw all legal matters, including those related to legislation and regulation, according to her LinkedIn.
Before that, she was a partner at law firm Chadbourne & Parke, where she also worked on regulatory compliance. She left the firm in 2005 and went in-house.
“We are delighted to welcome Tracey to Chubb's government affairs group. She is highly regarded within the insurance industry for her expertise and leadership on a wide range of regulatory and legislative policy matters and for her effective advocacy to advance the industry's interests,” said Joseph Wayland, the executive vice president and general counsel of Chubb Group. “She will be a strong addition to our government affairs team.”
Laws is set to begin her new post on Jan. 2, 2018. She was not immediately available for comment.
