In the in-house world, there isn’t the same clear path to advancement that you see at law firms and similarly situated people can define success very differently, according to legal recruiter Deborah Ben-Canaan of Major, Lindsey & Africa. She recently corresponded with Sprint counsel Ilona Korzha in this Association of Corporate Counsel blog post. Here are some of her tips for advancing your in-house career:

• Job titles matter if you’re on the job market. Lawyers who want to stay at their organizations don’t need to worry much about job titles. But those looking to go elsewhere should evaluate its significance. “Vice president in one organization means something completely different than that same title in another organization,” Ben-Canaan says.
