Hawaiian Airlines is saying aloha to a new top in-house lawyer. The company announced on Jan. 7 the hiring of its longtime outside counsel Aaron Alter as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Alter replaces Hoyt Zia, who is set to retire early this year.

Alter joins the carrier from the Palo Alto, California, office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he practiced corporate and securities law since 1990. Alter has represented Hawaiian Airlines since 2009, according to a company press release. He lived in Asia for more than a decade and holds bachelor’s, master’s and law degrees from Harvard University.
