Whether leaking plans for a layoff or gossiping about a colleague, a new app called Memo has some companies up in arms. And some businesses are trying to keep their workers off the app.

That’s where your friendly general counsel may need to step in, because such a ban could be a violation of the National Labor Relations Act. It’s illegal to try to keep employees from talking about some work-related issues, according to Jonathan Hyman of Cleveland’s Meyers, Roman, Friedberg & Lewis.
