This program focuses on legal issues for military families with special needs. You will learn about common educational and school related issues that military families with special needs face. You will also learn about special needs planning for military families, concentrating on special needs trusts, guardianship issues, and public benefits. This program is designed for military attorneys working in legal assistance, as well as civilian lawyers whose practices involve military-connected clients or issues.

On January 8, 2014, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidance on how to administer student discipline without discriminating. On December 18, 2018, the Federal Commission on School Safety recommended that the discipline guidance issued in 2014 be rescinded by the Department of Education. Get an overview of the rescinded disciplinary guidance issued by the Department of Education in 2014.

During this session, you will learn the different options student loan debtors have, and identify ways to be compensated for your services. Also, you will receive an inside look from a chapter 7 trustee on how to identify (and hopefully avoid) the pain that could come with a dreaded tuition clawback.

Join us for this first of a two-part series exploring issues pertaining to students with disabilities and particularly African-American students with disabilities, who are disproportionately part of the school-toprison pipeline and how to break this trajectory. Part I will address the statutory protections and interventions available through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related legislation.
