Alan Ross learned to sail as a 10-year-old at summer camp. Sailing, he says, was one of the reasons it took him seven years to graduate from college at the University of Washington. And it’s why he left the partnership at Stoel Rives last year.

“I always enjoyed the law, but I liked sailing better,” says Ross, 58. “And I could afford not being a lawyer.”
