Ballard Spahr has launched a mortgage banking group by hiring a four-attorney team of three partners and one associate from Patton Boggs in Washington, D.C.

The new partners are RICHARD ANDREANO, JR., JOHN SOCKNAT, and MICHAEL WALDRON. The team will help carve out a new niche within Ballard Spahr’s consumer financial services group dedicated to handling regulatory work, including advising mortgage companies and other financial firms on compliance and licensing issues, structuring operations, and representing clients in federal and state enforcement actions. The team will also advise clients on issues related to e-commerce, electronic signatures, and electronic records storage. Until their arrival, Ballard Spahr’s mortgage banking work had been more focused on litigation.
