Baker & McKenzie has bolstered its Spanish practice with the hire of senior arbitrator José María Alonso Puig from leading local firm Garrigues, The Am Law Daily has learned.

Alonso spent nine years as managing partner of the 2,000-lawyer Spanish giant—the only Iberian firm to qualify for inclusion on The American Lawyer‘s most recent Global 100 ranking—before standing down in 2009 to head Garrigues’s arbitration practice. He is due to join Baker’s Madrid office on March 1.
