After a 30-year run representing Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate–mostly as a Republican; lately as a Democrat- ARLEN SPECTER has left office and is joining the University of Pennsylvania Law School as an adjunct faculty member.

Specter, a former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee who participated in confirmation hearings for 14 U.S. Supreme Court nominees, will teach a course next fall 2011 on the relationship between Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court. Specter, a former Philadelphia district attorney and assistant counsel to the Warren Commission. is a University of Pennsylvania alumnus.
