Intel Corporation agreed to pay $7.68 billion in cash for McAfee, Inc., on August 19. The acquisition would be the largest in Intel’s history, and at $48 per target share comes at a 60 percent premium to McAfee’s August 18 closing price. With it, the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing company would expand into computer security software and services.

The parties hope to close the deal by the end of the year pending approvals from regulators and McAfee shareholders.
