A group of real estate entities has filed a $55 million legal malpractice suit against Paul Hastings, alleging the law firm was negligent in reviewing a portion of a contract that allowed annual rent escalations that were “far in excess” of what was appropriate.

Paul Hastings has retained Davis Polk & Wardwell partner Paul Spagnoletti and counsel Gina Cora for its defense to the suit, which was filed in late February in Manhattan Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Ron Minkoff, partner at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, is representing West 87 LP and other real estate entities that assigned their malpractice claims.
