A Kirkland & Ellis attorney with ties to the controversy surrounding a 2014 police shooting of a black teenager in Chicago has been uninvited from an upcoming campaign fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg scheduled for Friday night.

Stephen Patton, of counsel in Kirkland’s Chicago litigation group, was set to co-sponsor an event for Buttigieg in the Windy City on Friday, but the campaign removed him after it received backlash for working with Patton because of his history in the Chicago Law Department, the Associated Press first reported. During his time at the helm of the city’s law department, he led efforts to delay the release of a video that showed a white police officer shooting Laquan McDonald in 2014.
