On the eve of trial, Upper Darby Township, Pa., has agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to settle a civil rights suit brought by an 82-year-old doctor who claimed he was falsely arrested for displaying an anti-war sign at a campaign event for President Bush in September 2003.

The case garnered national attention in July when defense lawyers filed a motion seeking to prohibit the plaintiff from mentioning Bush’s name during the trial.
