The New Jersey Supreme Court on Wednesday granted mass tort designation to multiple suits seeking damages for alleged health hazards from a toxic landfill in Passaic County near a former Ford Motor Co. plant in Mahwah, N.J.

The court acted at the request of Ford and other defendants, who argued that the 656 plaintiffs’ claims arise from the same set of facts and plead similar injuries and that centralized management would save money and streamline the process.
