Beaty became the company's first general counsel. An African-American woman from upstate New York, Beaty was hired to establish an in-house legal department for the paper products manufacturer. Her mission was to centralize decision making, record keeping and, above all, compliance with the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
