A great majority of the buzz surrounding the issue of diversity in the legal profession has focused on the recruiting, hiring, retention and promotion practices of only the largest law firms in the country. Yet 86 percent of lawyers in private practice are employed in firms with less than 100 attorneys. This article examines the state of diversity in the small-firm market while also suggesting measures that can be taken to increase the level of diversity in this segment of the legal profession.
