The Supreme Court on Monday turned down an appeal by Lorillard Tobacco Co. in a trademark infringement case that some business groups considered critical to the fight against counterfeit goods.
The case involved the sale of two packages of counterfeit Newport cigarettes by a small retailer in Denver, Colo. Lorillard, a subsidiary of New York City-based Loews Corp., manufactures Newports, as well as the Kent and True brands.
