After meeting with Justice Department officials last week, the head of the National Black Farmers Association is preparing to go to court to fight Monsanto Co.’s proposed $1.5 billion purchase of Delta and Pine Land Co.

“If this merger goes through, it’s going to contribute to more land lost by black farmers,” said John Boyd Jr., president of NBFA. He said a meeting with Assistant Attorney General Tom Barnett and a group of government officials gave him an opportunity to express his concerns, “but what they’re going to do, I don’t know.”
